Homemade Face Mask - Mud Pack Day

Friday, September 25, 2015

Today I have a little bit of a different post for you all as it is essentially a DIY post! Wednesday 30th September marks National Mud Pack Day which is a great excuse to get creative, make your own face mask and get relaxing!

Face masks (especially homemade) are a great way to relax in the comfort of your own home and have fun at the same time. You can even rally a few of your friends/family round and make a pamper night of it! As winter is coming, I thought I would make a soothing and moisturising face pack which would bring the glow back to the skin during the colder weather.

Ingredients & tools you will need:
- Half Tablespoon 100% Coconut Oil
- Half Ripe Banana
- Half Cup (or roughly 100g) of Natural Yogurt
- A bowl
- A spoon
- A fork

I chose these ingredients because each of them have their own individual benefits for the skin. Bananas are full of antioxidants which are great for helping to repair the skin, Yoghurt is great for cooling the skin and getting rid of redness and the Coconut Oil is very moisturising. This is the perfect concoction for getting your skin back on track when it needs a bit of a boost!

In terms of making the mask, simply mash the banana up as smoothly as possible with either a fork or a blender, add in the yoghurt and coconut oil and give it a mix until everything is nicely combined!

These exact measurements made a nice thick face mask which stayed nicely on the skin once applied. However, if you find the mixture to thick or thin you can add more banana or yoghurt as necessary! This portion would have been enough for a couple to a few face masks depending on how thickly you choose to apply!

Now comes the fun part - putting the mask on! This can be a little messy so you might want to make sure you haven't got your best clothes on - just incase it spills! My mum decided to get involved in the fun today so that's who you see in these pictures!

To apply the mask you can either use your hands or a face brush. Today we decided to use a clean makeup brush as it was much more precise and a lot less messy! Simply apply the mask generously and then sit back while it works it's magic for 10-15 minutes!

Don't forget to take a few pictures and share them on social media! It's always good to see the fun people are having whilst pampering!

Once you've been relaxing for 10 minutes or so it's time to wash the mask off and see the skin benefits! Simply run a flannel under warm water and use it to wash the face mask away then follow with a splash of cold water to refresh the skin. Then simply pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Once you've fully removed the mask you will instantly be able to see the benefits it had on the skin! When my mum had removed the face mask we instantly saw how much fresher and glowing her skin looked and it was definitely a fun process too!

So there it is, one homemade face mask recipe! Why don't you have a go at making your very own face mask and share the process along the way?
