A Letter To My Mum This Mother's Day

Sunday, March 6, 2016

Today is Mother's Day in the United Kingdom - a day in which many people use to show their love and appreciation for the special lady in their life. This day is meant for honouring and thanking the Mother figure in your life for all they do all year round, whether it be your Mum, Nan, Aunt or any other Female Carer in your life. For some, this means showering their loved one with gifts and surprises, for others it's about simply spending the day with their loved one or giving them a 'day off' from their usual tasks. Every way is special and I think showing that appreciation (in any form) is truly lovely.

This year, as my blog has become a large part of my life, I wanted to include a part of our Mother's Day in the form of a post; A letter to my Mum this Mother's Day.

To Mum,

Happy Mother's Day.

This is a bit of a strange feeling - I can't remember the last time I really wrote a letter and I definitely don't think I have ever written one for you. I usually stick to texts - normally when you're sat downstairs and I'm to lazy to move from my bed. How lazy, sorry.

Anyway, as it is Mother's Day, I just wanted to write you a little something to tell you exactly how much I love you and how much I really appreciate you.  You really are my hero and best friend all rolled into one and I can tell you now, I wouldn't be who or where I am today if it wasn't for you - but you know that.

Everyday I become a little bit more like you and that's ok because I couldn't think of a better lady. You've taught me everything from how to talk right to how to be a loving, genuine person and  honestly, you couldn't have done a better job. I remember back at school people would be so confused as to why we spent so much time together - 'why do you go everywhere with your mum?'.  I never really got the confusion - why wouldn't I? You are my home - wherever you are I feel safe. I guess that's why I never leave your side.

When I have ever been asked who my role model/idol is/was I would always think of you straight away. You have shown me how brave you are, how strong you are and just how clever you are - even if you don't always feel it. It amazes me because plenty of people would have given up if they had been through half of the struggles you have but not you. You fight everyday for us. We could never repay you.

Only a few weeks ago I turned 21 and that's a pretty big milestone. 21 whole years you have now looked after me, day and night. I've actually now been in your life longer than I wasn't in it! That's a whole lot of years and a whole lot of thank you's. So...

Thank you for keeping me safe and being brave every day.
Thank you for being strong and providing for me even when times were hard.
Thank you for being there for me when I couldn't go to school because my anxiety was so bad.
Thank you for sticking up for me when the bullies got me down.
Thank you for helping me manage my mental health and coming to all the appointments with me when I couldn't face them alone.
Thank you for believing in me when no one else did.
Thank you for putting up with all my stages - from the tongue piercing, to the crazy hair colours and the bad boyfriends
Thank you for inspiring me to chase my dreams no matter how many times they change.
Thank you for understanding.
and most importantly... thank you for being you, unconditionally and unapologetically.

I love you to the moon and back; to infinity and beyond; and more than you could every imagine. My Mum, My Role Model and My Best Friend. xxx
