The older I get the more I'm starting to realise who is really there for me in life. This stands for both family and friends. Unfortunately, this is not always in a positive way. In fact, you could say that more often than not, I have to find out the hard way. The main pattern I'm starting to see emerge though, is that people are quick to butter you up and say they are there for you but when it comes down to it, they're quite clearly not.
The biggest lesson? ...
At the end of the day people will be quick to tell you they care and that they're there for you, then when they're not they're quick to fill you with excuses and more promises. If you continue to believe all of this though, I feel like in a way you're (unintentionally) setting yourself up for a fail and you're bound to be disappointed.
After time you will realise that it's not worth confronting, nor is it worth being sad about. In hindsight they're doing you a favour.
Watch what people do instead of listening to what they say. You'll be surprised.
