Interview Preparation

When I was looking for my last job I remember the day I was invited for interview, after initially freaking out I did the first thing that comes naturally to me - I checked for blog posts! Blog posts are the first things I look for when I need inspiration, motivation or help! However, I was a bit disappointed when I couldn't find an awful lot (nothing recent anyway). That is why today I thought I'd create my own post on how to prepare before and what to expect during!

Get yourself prepared. This could be from your appearance to your paperwork you need to know you're ready for the day.

Appearance:

• I always make sure my nails are tidy - usually these means I cut them and file them down and either opt for a clear polish or a more natural colour (i.e. sheer polish or a french manicure).
• Hair wise I make sure I look clean and neat - washed (and trimmed if needed) and then styled either in a neat bun/ponytail or down and straight.
• For makeup minimal is best! No bright colours or heavy looking base. I think that an even base with a natural lipstick and minimal eyes is always better received!
• Outfit wise I would always say smart - which is a given! Trousers/skirt with a nice blouse or a smart dress! Personally I also like to cover my tattoo(s), one with a watch and my other with tights/trousers!

Paperwork:

• I.D - I don't think I've ever been to a job interview and not needs identification. Usually they ask for a couple so I take photo versions (Drivers License/Passport) and something written and formal (Bank statement/ Bill)
• CV - I always have a CV with me just in case they question me on dates etc. It's also really good to offer them a copy to look over. 
• Achievement Folder - I'm assuming not everyone will have this as a folder I'm just overly organised. Basically this is just a folder full of my certificates/achievements such as GCSE results driving test pass certificate etc. This just showcases all of your achievements and proves you have the grades you say you have for the job.
• Any extra info - Hospital paperwork for any illnesses/disabilities you wish your potential employer to know about, Holiday paperwork for any pre-booked holidays. Little extras just in case.

Knowledge:

• Research the brand. Now I'm not saying you need to know every single detail but they may just ask you what you know about their company. You need to know the basics to prove you are actually interested and know what they're all about. 
• Be prepared for questions. Again, you do not need a script. Just have a little think of what you may say when they ask certain questions so you don't panic too much on the spot. They may ask things such as - What is your biggest achievement? Why do you want this job? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? 
• On the other hand, think of some of your own questions. This isn't 100% compulsory but it helps both you and your potential employer find out a little bit more about each other. I'm not saying ask him/her their favourite film - ask more about the job, staff, workplace. 
• Know when to be there, what to take and who to ask for. Read the job description, read the invitation to interview and read them both again. Make sure you're on time and you haven't forgotten anything that they have specifically requested you take with you.

Last but not least - relax, be yourself and try and enjoy yourself. That may sound silly but you have to try and show your true self in order for you to have the best possible chance in securing any job. Interviewers like to see you as a person as well as your skills in order to see if you will fit in and be suitable. You have to think the worst they can say is no and if all else fails this is just practice for the future.
