5 Ideas to Keep the Kids Entertained At Home - #StayHomeStaySafe

Thursday, April 2, 2020

Although I don't have any children myself, I'm missing my little nieces to absolute pieces and can't imagine how it feels for all the little kiddies staying indoors and maybe not understanding why it's so important. With that in mind, I thought I would make a little list of at home activities to keep both you and the kids busy and having fun.

- 'School Disco' - Now your neighbours might not appreciate this one if you make it a daily occurrence however, I think this is a really fun idea for both kids and adults. Let the little ones pick their favourite outfit, pop some music on and have a little boogie. If you wanted to go all out, you could do some jugs of juice, do a 'party food' style tea and even attempt some little games/dances (cha cha slide, musical statues etc). Whether it be 30 mins or an hour it's a fun idea and may just make you forget about the outside world for a bit.

- DIY Crafts - A bit of a messy one so not for everyone but would definitely pass time and is great for both boys and girls (I actually think I'd enjoy doing this one too!). This one would be dependent on what you have around the house or what you can get hold of but the opportunities are endless from making play dough from scratch to something a bit more simple like bubble mixture. Pinterest is great for at home craft ideas and will have options for all ages.

- Scavenger/ Treasure Hunt - Again, this is hugely dependent on what you have at home or what you can get hold of but this can be done to either find treats (e.g. chocolate coins) or just to find items around the home/garden. If you go down the item route you can write them a little list and get them to tick items off or take a picture of each item if they have a tablet - the treat option is also great as Easter is just around the corner!

- Old School Games - Taking it back to some classic childhood games you could grab a pen and paper for 'noughts & crosses' or 'hangman', go to the garden for hopscotch or grab a deck of cards for a game of 'fish' or 'snap' in a bid to keep yourself and this kids occupied for a little longer. Better yet, if you have some board games hiding away, crack one of those out and try not have any fallings out!

- 'At Home' - Another fun idea is to bring an activity you would leave the house for, to your home. You could pop a movie on and have a 'cinema night' (drinks and snacks optional) or you could have a 'spa day' where you could do bubble baths, braid hair, paint nails and/or do little hand/foot massages. The good thing about this kind of idea is you can do it as minimal or all-out as you want, it doesn't have to be stressful and you can just work with what you have.

There we go, just 5 little ideas I thought would be fun to pass a bit of time and inject a bit of fun into isolation. Obviously, like I say, I don't have any children myself so parents might be reading this thinking I'm delusional but I really do think these would be so much fun and I can't wait to try do a couple of these when isolation is over! (Note to my sister in law: I'll need to borrow the girls!). Of course, they're not something to be doing everyday but they're just a little something extra.

Hope everyone is staying home and keeping as safe as possible! You might just be hearing a little more from me over the coming weeks!
