As Christmas creeps up on us we all start to think about sending our loved ones beautifully handwritten Christmas cards. However, this year I have opted against this tradition and today I'm going to tell you why.
In the hustle and bustle of all things festive we start to think about the more commercial meaning of Christmas that has taken over which is the cards, the presents and the drunken Christmas Parties. Us bloggers tend to fill our online pages with gift guides and wish lists along the way. However, we begin to forget the real reason behind Christmas, which (other than the birth of Jesus) is about love and goodwill.
Although cards and presents are both lovely to give and receive, there are lots of things out there which would benefit from our money a lot more than a Christmas card that will have been thrown away no more than a week after the big day.
This is why this year I am opting against Christmas Cards and have instead decided to donate any money I would have spent on them to my chosen charity. I do this in the hopes that my friends and family will understand and maybe even decide to join in themselves.
Where will I be donating my money you may ask. Now you may or may not have heard of a lovely (and very brave) lady called Mandy Thomas. (You may actually know her son, Jahméne Douglas, who is a fantastic singer and came 2nd in Xfactor 2012.) Well, Mandy has recently brought out a book entitled 'You Can't Run' which is all about her domestic violence story and she has also set up an EveryClick page to raise funds for the domestic abuse charity Womens Aid. Womens Aid are a charity that provide help and support to women and children who are suffering Domestic Abuse as well as help support change that lasts. Mandy's book is about her terrifying Domestic Violence story and as she mentions on her website, the book was written 'to highlight where mistakes were being made in the justice system and throughout all the organisations involved with domestic violence'.
Domestic Violence is a cause I hold very close to my heart and I will always be grateful of the fabulous people and charities that are out there to help those suffering and their families in their desperate time of need. That's why this year I will be donating money to Mandy's EveryClick page and although it may not be a lot I know it will be going to those who need it more than I.
