BakerDays Letterbox Cake (& UK/Ireland Giveaway)

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

When I got a message via Twitter from a lovely member of staff over at BakerDays asking me if I'd be interested in reviewing their cake by post service I was so excited! I have seen so many people mentioning BakerDays and in particular their letterbox cakes so I was very keen to get an email sent across saying 'yes please'! Today I'm going to share with you my opinion on the letterbox cake service and I'll just say now - if your loved one is a cake lover you definitely need to get ordering one of these for Valentines Day!

So, the whole process started with me browsing the Valentines Day section on the BakerDays website (because the special day isn't far off!). I was actually really impressed by their large selection of designs - I felt like they really have a design for every kind of person whether it be the cute-tsy type, the funny type or the more personal kind!

After selecting my initial design I was then able to go onto the more personal things (which I think is my favourite part of the service). This next section is where I was able to choose the size, flavour and personalisation of the cake. This means you can have it just how you imagine which I think makes the service so amazing! Another thing is that you can also have gluten free, dairy free, fruit, chocolate or plain flavour cake which means there is something suitable for pretty much anyone!

Now all I had to do was wait!

So, when my lovely bespoke cake arrived in the post I will be honest, I was very apprehensive. How on earth could a cake make it through the postal service and then through a drop from the letterbox? Then - to make it that little bit more scary, when I picked the box up it was rattling. The thought in my mind was that something had to be broken!

Much to my surprise, when I opened up my package there was a lovely card, a leaflet all about the company, some extra little sweeties (that explains the rattling) and of course - the cake! You know what's even better?! Not a single thing was broken! How? I don't know! But what I can say is that I am utterly amazed and I literally want to buy them for all of my friends.

The whole packaging is really lovely and I think these would make the perfect surprise gift! I also had a super cute idea that - say you were getting married, you could have one made like 'Will you be my bridesmaid?' and have it sent across to the person! Regardless of the occasion, the great thing is that anything is doable as the service is so customisable!

Inside the cake tin was my chosen design. As soon as I opened the lid of the cake there was the most delicious smell! It was also really good to see the cake was packed even more (which is great for freshness) and that there were instructions on how to remove the cake best from the tin to avoid damaging the design (after all it has come all this way)!

The thing I was most excited about though, of course, was the taste test!

I'll apologise now for the grainy images - the lighting in our kitchen is awful!

As you can see the cake is completely unscathed and looks so yummy!

The cake was so fresh and smelt divine! I chose the vanilla flavour and this gorgeous heart design inspired by Valentines Day! The cake tasted so delicious and was so spongey however I must say - I do like my sponge cakes with jam in the middle! That being said - I do love the whole service and I am super tempted to give their chocolate cake a try!

These cakes are said to stay fresh for up to 2 weeks providing they are stored in a cool dry place (however, I know for sure this one won't last that long in this house - yum yum!) which I think is amazing.

BakerDays also have a Next Day Delivery service which is perfect if time is of the essence (providing your order before 2pm and your delivery is for the UK) and they also have a personalisation option for the packaging which is great if you're ordering a letterbox cake as a surprise gift and what to let the recipient know not to open it until a specific date!

All in all I would really recommend BakerDays and in particular their Letterbox Cake service as I think it's a really unique idea with really high quality and bespoke designs! I would just like to say a huge thank you to BakerDays for giving me the opportunity to review this fab service!

Now onto the fun bit! The lovely people at BakerDays have given me the opportunity to do a giveaway for one of you to win your very own letterbox cake (designed by you!) and all you need to do is enter using the form below to be in with the chance of winning!
