Pros
There's no embarrassment - although you shouldn't be embarrassed anyway for trying to better yourself, I do know that some people feel very self conscious about going to the gym so working out at home in the comfort of your own 4 walls is definitely a pro in this situation.
No monthly fees - There's no denying that the gym can be a bit pricy so working out at home eliminates those monthly fees working out better in the long run. Once you have the equipment you need you're set or you can even make the most of free online workouts (such as YouTube) and no equipment exercises.
Workout when you want - Finding time to schedule in a gym class can be difficult for many so another benefit of working out at home is you can literally do it whenever you want. Wake up a bit early? Throw in a 30 minute cardio session! Favourite show replaced for the football? Pick those weights up!
All to yourself - A benefit of workout out at home is that you can take as long as you need without feeling rushed or pressured to move along because someone else wants the machine you're using. There's nothing worse than feeling like you didn't have a good workout because you were practically pushed off the gym equipment.
Cons
It can be hard to feel motivated - If you live alone or don't have anyone at home that you can work out with it can be hard to motivate yourself to actually exercise and push yourself. Sometimes the gym/classes can give you that extra push to get the most out of your workouts.
It can be pricy to begin with - If you are really wanting to make the most of it, it can be a little pricey to get started with some equipment to keep you going. Whether you're after a treadmill, some weights or just some workout DVD's it can be an initial expense that possibly can't be justified.
'What do I do?' - If you're not quite sure what you need to do, workout out at home can be a little daunting. The beauty of gym classes is that you can literally copy the instructor and know you'll be getting a good workout.
Space - If you're after having a weight bench, an exercise bike and some dumbbells, it might be hard trying to find a space to keep it all without feeling like you're cluttering up your house. For some, it's just not practical to take up a room with all your workout gear and therefore nipping down to the gym might be the better option.
We've been absolutely loving working out at home as for me, the idea of going into a gym is a bit daunting. With that being said though, our spare room does resemble a small gym right now and when we need that room in the future, it might not be as practical as it is now.
Let me know, do you favour going to the gym or working out at home?
