Date Night at Miller & Carter

Thursday, October 17, 2019

After knowing each other for almost 10 years, being together (this time round) for nearly 4 and being married with a house - date nights have fallen to the back of our minds and don't really seem to happen anymore. However, I got an email yesterday afternoon from Kal (we're not weird, he was at work) telling me to be ready for him getting home in 'something not too fancy but not like jeans and a hoody'. I must admit - I was pretty nervous but I needn't have been because he had booked us a table at Miller & Carter Steakhouse and we had the most amazing evening!

First up, drinks. As per usual I went for a gin and Kal had a pint. I went for a Rhubarb and Apple gin with lemonade and it was so nice! We then took a seat and waited for our buzzer to go off (we turned up a tad early for our reservation) but it didn't take long and I'm pretty sure the buzzer went off bang on the reservation time anyway.

As it was our first visit, our waitress Gosia offered to go through the menu with us (which I agreed to) and then gave us a little time to choose. I have to say straight off the bat, the service at this place was amazing and our waitress in particular was so friendly and helpful. Kal isn't usually one to comment on how good service is unless it's bad but even he said it was spot on from beginning to end.

Starters - I went for the Baked Chedder Mushrooms and Kal the Sticky Chipotle Chicken.
My mushrooms were so gorgeous and were definitely something I would order again. I think the bread really made it and my favourite was the focaccia.

Kallum actually said that he would have loved his starter as a main meal because it was so good! He ate his super quick because he enjoyed it so much and it was literally all I heard about all evening.
After these, we couldn't wait for the mains as we knew it was going to be amazing.

Onto mains. In my opinion, you can't go to a steakhouse and not try the steak. I'm a huge steak lover but find that it's never quite cooked to how I'd like it to be. You can ask for well done and it come out bloody or you can order medium and it come charcoaled. Let me just tell you now, it was the best steak I have ever eaten in my 24 years. In fact, it may possibly have been the best meal I have ever eaten in my life.
I went for the 30 day aged 8oz Rump Steak (medium) with Seasoned Fries, Onion Loaf and Porcini Mushroom & Black Garlic sauce. The steak was so tender and just a dream to eat. I would say by far this was my favourite course.

Kals choice of main was Buttermilk Chicken with Dauphinoise Potato, Tenderstem Broccoli and Chicken Dripping Gravy. Kal was amazed at how beautiful the chicken was and it went down a treat. He also ordered a portion of seasoned fries which were honestly amazing. They had just the right amount of flavouring on them without being overpowering and we would definitely make sure we got them again with whatever we ordered. That being said - I also really want to try their halloumi fries!

Dessert time - I wasn't sure I was going to have room for dessert because the rest of the food was so nice and filling but we really wanted the full experience. I went for the Classic Creme Brulee and Kal couldn't decide between the Sticky Toffee Pudding or the Belgian Chocolate Brownie so he asked Gosia and she said the brownie!
We again wasn't disappointed and were for sure glad we ordered dessert in the end! Kal said his brownie was divine but he couldn't keep the sticky toffee pudding off his mind so he says he will get that one next time!

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and had the best date night! We would definitely recommend Miller & Carter to anyone and will for sure be visiting again ourselves. What I would say is that this isn't a cheap venue - you certainly pay for the quality you get. So it would be perfect for special occasions or one-off treats!

That being said, we definitely need to make an effort for more date nights! Whether it be just a special meal at home or another visit to Miller & Carter, it certainly is something we need to do more often!

Thank you to my husband for my special treat. I love you x
